Saskatoon is the first in Canada to offer softball instruction to children ages 4 to 9 years of age during the fall and winter. Activities are included to foster the involvement of all players, including players with high and low skill levels. Activities and lead up games are patterned after informal playground games that promise fun and lots of action.  Participants will go home at the end of the session happy and tired, while improving their fitness level and skills.

Participants will take part in 6 one-hour sessions led by certified instructors. Our instructor to participant ratio is 1:7 giving all the participants special attention. We will use Softball Canada's Long Term Player Development Model that provides an athlete development matrix for each age group to teach the appropriate softball skills for each stage of development. Special equipment is used that is sized and weighted for each participant in order that they can be more successful in learning the skills of the game. All participants require their own water bottle, runners and ball gloves (with the exception of U5 who will not need a glove).

What will this mean to your child? 
During your child's first few years of softball, the emphasis will be on the development of physical literacy.  Physical literacy includes fundamental movement skills (locomotion, object manipulation and body management skills) and fundamental softball skills (catching a softball with a glove, pitching a softball, hitting a softball with a bat, etc.) that give children the confidence to participate in a variety of sports and physical activities throughout their lifetime. Time will be spent learning the ABCs of athleticism (Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed) to teach them how to control their own bodies.  

It is important to recognize and inform parents that your children may take part in activities that do not look relevant to softball but are supporting their overall and long-term development.  In Timbits Softball Program, games and FUN activities will teach your child to move, throw, catch, hit and run properly, which will eventually allow them to be successful playing softball.

U5 will be from 9:00-10:00am
U7 will be from 10:00-11:00am 
U9 will be from 11:00am-12:00pm
